in case you haven't noticed, the hartford courant has new art on steven hayes. supplied by the DOC, the photo certainly gives the accused a far different appearance than his ubiquitous mug shot. in that photo, hayes looked like he could be working the local deli counter, or more like Uncle Fester, the nickname he picked up in jail.
the new photo portrays a trimmed-down hayes. gone are the jowls and puffy bags under the eyes. all he needs is form-fitting shirt and it could be the "after" picture for a miracle weight loss product. "Steven hayes lost 40 lbs on the macdougall-walker plan! get yours now!"
if the new photo was meant to show how well hayes is being treated in jail, they should have picked one where his eyes didn't have such a vacuous expression. it is the look of man who has just seen the gates of hell close on him.
