Tags: Steven Hayes, Cheshire home invasion trial, cheshire police department

so a guy gets pulled over in cheshire for driving while intox and later accuses the cheshire p.d. of roughing him up. but these days, DWI stops are videotaped and the tape has nothing FOX's "Cops" would be interested in. So no big deal, right? Except for one thing.

in the cheshire police station, the guy tells the cop: "I bet you treated Steven Hayes better when he was here than you're treating me."

so maybe those are just the words of a drunken dope (the man ran for town council last election, lost) or maybe they signal something much more important--hayes' entrance into popular culture, the beginning of a metamorphosis from accused murderer to symbol.

just my opinion, but after the murders themselves, the real tragedy taking place is the amount of time it's taking for justice to be served.

the length of the cheshire murders trial has already begun the dehumanization process of everyone involved, including the precious lives of a mother and her two daughters. hayes, too, is becoming less human, and somehow that makes his crime seem less heinous.
